The Hunslet Club - South Leeds Life Contributor
The Hunslet Club aims to provide activities that develop young people to achieve their full potential. Our work includes a wide ranging evening and weekend programme of youth based activities including football, boxing, gymnastics, performing arts, cheerleading, musical theatre, Irish dance, hip hop, breakdance, ballet and other leisure activities for over 2,000 young people per week aged between two and a half and eighteen years of age. The activities develop the young people, raising their confidence, provide opportunities to socialise with peer groups, learn new skills, live healthier lifestyles and become responsible young citizens. The club also provides fitness activities for adults and is available to hire for parties and functions.
For the last eleven years on weekdays the club has delivered courses leading to accredited vocational qualifications in sport, healthy lifestyles, dance, vehicle maintenance, construction, hair and beauty, ICT, key skills, catering and music production for 14 to 16 year olds. The courses are either 1 or 2 years in length and targeted at young people from a range of challenging backgrounds. Over the course of the academic year over 380 pupils referred from almost forty high schools across gain an average of 4 qualification certificates each and referrals onto to higher education, apprenticeships or employment
