Beeston man volunteers at Romanian children’s centre

John Hardy

A Beeston man is set to travel to Romania to volunteer at a children’s centre.

John Hardy, who is also a city councillor for the Farnley and Wortley Ward in Leeds, is travelling to the Eastern European country in early August.

John says he will be heading up the construction team at The Bethlehem Christian Centre in Hunedoara and will be driving there from France and then back to the Leeds when his week is over.

The centre exists with the goal of ministering to the needs of their local community. John will be joinging a group of volunteerstaking part in all sorts of things, from construction work to sewing clubs and childrens’ sports days, as well as joining in with evangelistic events in the city centre.

You can donate to the mission trip here – all funds raised will contribute towards a financial gift for the Romanian centre – or money can be given to Maureen Lawrence, Manager, St George’s Church, St George’s Centre, Great George Street, Leeds, LS1 3BR, telephone 0113 383 2140.

  1. John joins a team from South Leeds who over the past 3 years have built up strong links with this centre. Once again people from St Cross Church in Middleton are taking part and other volunteers from the Church in Cottingley and St Luke’s Holbeck as well as St David’s in Beeston are going as well. Skills of the volunteers will be put to good use on the mission trip, for example, Dave, who works in IT will be taking donated laptops and setting up a library loan system for the centre, and Helen, who speaks Romanian will be running English classes…..
