Christian Aid Manager is new Vicar of Beeston

Beeston got a new Vicar last night when the Bishop of Ripon & Leeds conducted a special service at St Mary’s Church.

Revd Lindsey Pearson was previously the Yorkshire Regional Manager of Christian Aid, and closely involved in supporting individuals, churches and communities to bring about change in some of the poorest parts of the world. One of the first things she did as new vicar was to promote Christian Aid week which starts on 12th May.

But she is no stranger to a vicar’s life. Her husband, Andrew, is the vicar of Rothwell, and she herself was a vicar in Seacroft. The clergy couple know South Leeds well as they both lived here when Andrew was Vicar of Hunslet Moor. The two vicars will be living in Beeston Vicarage, with her husband commuting over to Rothwell.

Lindsey’s responsibilities now cover an enlarged area due to the closure of Holy Spirit Church on Tempest Road. There are imaginative plans for the future use of that building. Other church buildings in the parish (one of the largest in South Leeds) include St David’s on Waincliffe Drive, and also Cottingley Church.

Lindsey says she is looking forward to getting involved in Community and Church life, and no doubt she will become a familiar figure around the streets of Beeston!

  1. Great service at St Mary’s on Wednesday evening – good to see the church packed. It would be great to see people of faith and those with none working together for a better Beeston.

  2. Good. Hope she gets stuck in on a pro-poor and pro-community-orientated level. We don’t need IDS/Cameron/Clegg- influenced saboteurs.

  3. I like to take this opportunity of welcoming Revd Lindsey Pearson to Beeston. Hopefully she’ll have many happy times in Beeston.

  4. Thanks for your welcome. I’m looking forward to getting to know Beeston and Cottingley, and to working with church and community. I’ll be pleased to work with all people of goodwill. If there’s something happening you think I should know about or be involved in please tell me.
