Cockburn’s dancers to perform at national U.Dance event

Atmosphere, Cockburn High School’s youth dance company, will be performing its piece ‘The Wolf’ in Plymouth this week (22-25 July 2015) representing the Yorkshire Region at a national event.

atmosphereU.Dance is Youth Dance England’s annual celebration of dance. It take place in a different city each year and will be in Plymouth for 2015. Atmosphere will be representing Yorkshire alongside DAZL Male Youth Dance Company (also from South Leeds) and North Lindsey Dancers.

Cockburn’s dancers were selected at a regional event called Fresh. They were chosen from amongst fifty groups to perform on the main stage at West Yorkshire Playhouse back in April. Their piece ‘The Wolf’ is a nightmarish re-telling of the story of the woodcutter and the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood – with a twist!

The judging panel described ‘The Wolf’ as “a stand-out piece”. In addition to rehearsing at every opportunity to prepare for their trip to Plymouth, the young people involved – along with staff and parents/carers – have worked incredibly hard to raise funds to ensure all group members can access in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

This has been a fantastic year for Atmosphere, who were also crowned the Great Big Dance Off national champions after competing against 200 other schools from across the country in June.
