Councillors to debate two South Leeds planning applications

The Council’s South & West Plans Panel will have projects in Beeston and Middleton to decide on when it meets next week (17 May 2018).

The first application is to use part of the site between Subway and The Old Peacock pub on Elland Road for car sales. The site would include a portable cabin as a sales office and house a “silent” generator in a shipping container to provide power to the site.  The original application included a pitch for selling hot food on match days. This raised a number of concerns from local residents, but has now been dropped.

Highways are objecting because of the proximity to one of the zebra crossings on Elland Road, which they feel will be compromised by cars arriving at and leaving the site.

The application only refers to a quarter of the site and the applicant has said the remainder of the site will be used for match day parking, which doesn’t require planning permission.

Planning officers are recommending Councillors approve the plans subject to conditions, including the permission is only for three years. You can read the full report here: https://democracy.leeds.gov.uk/documents/s175153/2%20-%2018%2000367%20FU.pdf

Proposed elevation for new housing

The second application is from Leeds Federated Housing to build 18 homes on an empty site on Sissons Lane, off Acre Road in Middleton. South Leeds Life reported on this application when it was first submitted last December.

A range of issues have been dealt with in negotiations between Leeds Fed and planning officers, including the design of corner properties and boundary treatments.

There have been no comments from members of the public and local Councillors concerns are about letting to local people, which is not a planning issue.
