Den festival returns to The Tetley

The acclaimed Leeds Den Festival is returning to south Leeds next weekend (22-23 August 2015).

Holbeck Gala 14 Den building 2It offers the chance for families to get creative together and build giant dens at The Tetley arts and community centre, as part of their Summer of Play season.

Last year saw the first ever Den Building Festival, organised by Leeds charity Together for Peace and a team of south Leeds people – with 500+ people creating amazing giant dens out of cardboard (reclaimed en route to recycling!) at two city centre events.

Following the rave reviews from last year, the Tetley centre – based at the old brewery site in Hunslet – have this year expanded the event to fill a whole weekend, and have also laid on music, extra crafts and arts activities, and more.

The event is free – although booking is recommended to reserve your den building slot. Click here (http://thetetley.org/den-building-festival/) for full info on the event; and for bookings, click here for Saturday, and here for Sunday. For those unable to pre-book, there will be a waiting list on the days themselves.

Ed Carlisle of Beeston, and also of Together for Peace who are supporting the Tetley with this year’s event, commented:

“This project is amazing – effortlessly generating so much interest and enthusiasm. It’s a simple idea – giving people the opportunity to get creative together, with unwanted cardboard and other stuff – but it seems to work!

“So it’s great that we’ve been able to expand it this year, to fill a whole weekend – massive thanks to the Tetley for all their hard work.”

The Leeds Den Building Festival 2015 is supported by Leeds City Council through the Play Enabling Grant and the City Centre Youth Activities Fund and organised by The Tetley with Together for Peace.

The event is supported by Trinity Leeds, Preloved.com, Carlsberg UK, Haley & Clifford, Halfords, HW Martin, Leeds University Union, Evans Cycles, Leeds Bike Shop, OCS, Woodrup and Copiserve.
