Ex Hunslet rugby player dies

We are sad to report that former Hunslet player Jimmy Brogden passed away last Sunday morning (11 March 2018) at Middleton Park Lodge nursing home, aged 95 after a short illness .

Jimmy was born in the Dartmouths streets of Hunslet and lived in Hunslet all his life.

Jimmy was well known for his memory. And if England had a team for talking Jimmy would have been the captain! Jimmy used to like going to the breakfast club at South Leeds Stadium on Friday mornings to meet other former players. Then he would go on to Dewsbury Road Social Club to play dominoes with the Tetleys Pensoners (where a lots people tried to talk to him but could not get a word in).

Jimmy played for Hunslet in the 40’s and is pictured here with the Yorkshire Senior Cup. During the war Jimmy was in the Royal Navy serving on the minesweepers.

Jimmy leaves Edna his wife and two sons. Jimmy lived in sheltered homes at Crescent Grange.
