Hawks fans rally to support Mark Smith’s family

After the sudden death of our friend and fellow Hunslet fan Mark Byron ‘Niffer’ Smith this week, a group of his fellow Hunslet supporters are organising a fundraising walk from Hunslet to Keighley on the same day his beloved Hunslet RL take on Keighley Cougars (Sunday 31 July, 3pm kick off).

The walk will be made in his memory with the sole aim of raising money for his dependents. The walk is open to all his family, friends and fellow Hunslet supporters and we urge you all to take part if able.

You can join the walk at any time on route, and you don’t have to do the full walk. Just come and show your support. We hope to be having a few refreshment stops on the way too!

The walk will leave from the Garden Gate early on Sunday morning and will follow the Leeds Liverpool Canal until we reach Cougar Park, Keighley. The walk is just over 21 miles and will take around 6 hours. We will watch the Keighley vs Hunslet match, cheering the Hawks on to victory, before returning to Hunslet on the train.

Walkers are asked to wear Hunslet colours (Myrtle, Flame and White) if possible and make the walk as colourful as possible.

Please contribute how you can, you can join our walk or give a donation, no matter how big or small, please do what you can to support this great cause.

Mark’s family have given us their blessing to do this in memory of Mark.

Lets walk for Niffer!

We’ve swept the seas before boys, so we shall again.
