Hawks win a tough game against Dewsbury Rams 18-6

Hawks_logoHunslet Hawks’ season finally kicked off with a win against the Dewsbury Rams at the South Leeds Stadium this afternoon (1 March 2015). In a game largely fragmented by the referee, Simon Brown kicked four penalties and one conversion with tries either side of the break from George Flanagan and Vinny Finigan.

The visiting Rams were hotly tipped before the season, but the Hawks put on an impressive performance both on and off the ball. The home side bolstered their squad mid-week with the arrival of 3 players on dual-registration from the Leeds Rhinos and looked all the stronger for their arrival.

Ryan Hepworth scored the Rams only try with Tom Hemingway kicking the extras for the visitors, who struggled to finish their plays despite having plenty of possession and chances to score. The Rams defence at times looked shaky though with mistakes and ill-discipline costing hugely in the end.
