Holbeck Working Men’s Club supports grieving family

The tragic news of the death of Rhys Baker left Holbeck Working Men’s club cold last week. Rhys was the son of one of the members, Mark Baker. I interviewed Mark only last year when he had just won the Arla Lorry Driver of the year award 2014.  Looking back now the feel good news story stands in contrast to the recent sad news. Mark was so proud of his family and the first thing he said to me was that his kids were proud of their dad.

Spokesperson Dennis Kitchen has paid tribute to 13 year old Rhys saying he was a great kid who was loved by all at the club. He was always cheerful, and regularly helping to stack shelves and playing the adults at pool. Dennis said that “Mark is very appreciative of the community support being given to the family by members of the club and neighbours.”

The funeral is taking place this Friday 20 March 2015 at St Luke’s Church at 2.45pm. Family and close friends then go on to Cottingley crematorium. After that, there will be the wake taking place at Holbeck Working Men’s Club with an open invitation to all.

There will be refreshments at the club.

Mark and some members of the family visited the site of the accident last week. It was evening and a lone bright star was shining in the heavens. They said it was Rhys looking down on them.
