Julius Caesar in Middleton Park

When can you see Roman Legions and siege engines in one of our lovely parks? When Oddsocks Theatre comes to town of course! Last night saw a fabulous staging of Julius Caesar by the lake in Middleton Park thanks to the Friends Of Middleton Park.

On a warm and dry sunny evening, Oddsocks brought their mix of Shakespeare and pantomime and entertained an audience of several hundred people of all ages, with their camping chairs and picnics. Oddsocks have a wonderful way of staying true to Shakespeare’s plays and speaking his lines, whilst introducing knockabout farce, appalling puns and gross over acting. And the audience loved it. I particularly enjoyed the launching of fake rocks and flaming missiles from a trebuchet (catapult) over the legionnaires shields and into the Brownies sitting in the front row. I can’t wait to see what thy have for us next year!
