Middleton and its Religious Past

Sunday 18 September, meet at the Visitor Centre in Middleton Park.
Walk starts 1 pm and will last about 2 hours. Free Event.

Middleton St Mary'sJoin the Friends of Middleton Park for a walk around the South side of the Park, taking in St Mary’s Church, built on park land donated by the local mine owners, the Brandlings. At the church we will enjoy a stroll around the churchyard, learn something about some of the people buried there, and view the inside of the church with our guides John Newbould and members of Middleton History Society. Members of the church will also be there to welcome visitors.

St Mary’s Church is about to undergo some structural work and improvements, and the work starts on Monday 19! So our visit gets in just in time to miss the scaffolding etc.

Along the way we will learn about early religious observance in Middleton and the trouble it got the local gentry into! We will return to the Visitor Centre along Town Street, via the Park Rose Garden and site of Middleton Lodge.

Everyone is welcome.

For further information, please ring the walk leader, Jim Jackson, on 01924 824488.
