Construction of two new units at White Rose Shopping Centre, that will house Handmade Burger and Prezzo restaurants, is progressing well.

The £2m project, which will see the extension of the foodcourt at the centre, is being headed by principal contractor Morgan Sindall and is providing employment for 30 people – many of whom live locally.

In addition to the Morgan Sindall site team, the development has provided work for six sub-contract companies based in the Leeds area, including mechanical installation specialists and installers of sprinkler systems and cladding.

The construction team, whose skills range from groundworking to roofing and scaffolding to steelworks, is also providing training and career development opportunities for seven young people studying for NVQs, three of whom are apprentices.

Harlan Pollitt, portfolio manager for Land Securities, which owns and manages White Rose, said:

“It’s great to see the progress that is being made, as we look forward to bringing two new restaurants to White Rose to further enhance our food and beverage offer, following the opening earlier this year of Frankie & Benny’s and a new Costa Coffee.

“Our plans for a multi-screen cinema, four additional restaurants and extension of the Primark and Debenhams stores will be considered by Leeds City Council’s plans panel on 24th October and, if gaining approval, will see the creation of up to 1,000 retail-related jobs at White Rose, as well as further employment opportunities for construction workers.”

  1. White Rose is a fantastic place, everyone I speak to who have visited says the same.
Redevelopment is a good thing as long as it does not reduce parking.
