Shine Nail Bar: Royalty, Results and Rewards!

As many of you will know, The Shine Nail Bar is a social enterprise nail bar based in Beeston. All money made at the nail bar goes back into supporting young people around the local area through the work of The Shine Project.

The Shine Nail Bar opened its doors in Spring 2015 and since then we’ve done the nails of many local people so thank you very much for all your enthusiasm! We’ve also been able to run Shine Aspiration sessions for young people in the nail bar through a grant from the Inner South Community Committee which has been brilliant to begin engaging more young people in the area with positive activities.

We hope it’s OK to have a little boast but in December 2015 we had the privilege of going down to London to the Business in the Community AGM. We met HRH Prince Charles and spoke to him about the nail bar and the business support we’re receiving through the Arc Programme. I don’t think we ever expected that we would be speaking to royalty about a little nail bar in Beeston but it’s good to put South Leeds on the map! Kaytlin (our 17 year old nail tech trainee from Beeston) even got the Prince laughing all about eyebrow waxing, such a surreal but brilliant moment!

As we look forward to 2016 we’re pleased to announce that we have secured a Comic Relief grant and we’re now offering work placements to young people from around the local area to gain experience working in a salon setting with additional support from our mentors. We’ve already had many girls from The Shine Project and the local area just pop into the nail bar for a chat and hang out so we’re excited to be able to offer them training, give them new skills and provide them with new opportunities.

Shine nails 1Finally we’ve just launched our Membership Scheme! Would you like to have access to discounted treatments, special offers and receive regular updates about The Shine Project? The membership scheme may well be for you. For £10 a month as a Gold member you can get yourself a Free Shellac treatment each month usually worth £15. A Silver member is £5 a month and entitles you to a Free Shellac every other month and Bronze for £4 a month entitles you to a Free Shellac every quarter. This is a great way to support a local charity doing lots of work with young people in South Leeds whilst also getting a little treat for yourself as well!
