Cottingley In Bloom May13Lets start with the Cottingley In Bloom planting day. Aire Valley Homes have posted a great set of photos on Facebook.

Over on the Cottingley Hall TRAC Facebook page Christine explains “Must say I created this group so people can get info on what’s going on and am too happy that you lovely lot are sharing info”. Info this week includes help for new tenant with rubbish in her garden and discussion of the poor bin service.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported on the Sunbeam Ales brewery started in a Beeston back-to-back.

Hilary Benn MP’s speech at the opening of the Leeds GATE resource centre has been posted on their Facebook page. It’s not technically in South Leeds, but GATE serve many of our residents.

South Leeds Music Centre have news of their Summer School on 3rd August and their 40th Anniversary Concert on 26th October.

A male has been charged with possession with intent to supply in excess of £36,000 worth of cannabis this week following the discovery of his cannabis farm in Beeston according to Holbeck Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Hunslet Hawks are supporting the Cross Flatts Parkrun under the banner “Welcome To The Beautiful South”. They’re giving away discount match tickets to every runner on 18th May.

Westwood Community Association have news of trips to Pondarosa Rural Therapeutic Centre at Heckmondwike and to Bridlington in August. They’ve also chased up ASDA about their new Middleton store and been told that the building commencement date has been put back to August.

The always well-informed Leeds Citizen blog has news that the decision on the super casino will be made by Councillors on Monday. The decision is between Elland Road and the new Eastgate development in town.

Beeston In Bloom’s Blooming Beeston blog has photos of the red and blue beds in the Millennium Garden in Cross Flatts Park, plus growing seedlings for their veg initiative. They also remind us of their plant sale on Saturday outside Beeston Co-op.

And finally, it’s official, South Leeds Life is the fifteenth best blog in Leeds. This is according to Journalism students at Leeds Met University who did some clever statistical jiggery-pokery, so it must be true.
