Hilary Benn MP cut the ribbon this morning (Friday 20 January 2017) as HEA opened their new office in the former Leeds Building Society branch on Domestic Street in Holbeck.

HEA’s Chief Executive Elissa Newman commented:

“This a real win-win for Holbeck. Not only has a landmark building been brought back into use, but it has given HEA a high street presence. We only moved in yesterday and already two people have come in to ask about our services and two people have volunteered to help us.”

The building was originally a cinema and HEA have used that theme in their new signage. Later it was a branch of the then Leeds & Holbeck Building Society, now the Leeds Building Society (LBS). LBS has made the building available to HEA on a five year, rent free lease.

As they were in the middle of a branch refurbishment programme, they asked their contractors to help with fitting out the office to meet HEA’s needs. The work was turned round in just two weeks in what Elissa Newman described as “our very own DIY SOS.”
