Warriors win funding for new goal posts

Hunslet Green, home of the Hunslet Warriors, is home to a new set of rugby posts thanks to sponsorship from Carling after their old ones rusted at the base and fell down.

Nominated by volunteer club secretary Pat Benatmane, the new posts will help support its growing playing membership.

As well as the men’s and boys’ teams, the club also boasts a growing women’s section, thanks in part to its open and inclusive ethos, welcoming anyone and everyone to join. Run largely by volunteers, the Hunslet club believes in local improvement through the values that sport brings; teamwork, healthy living and sociability.

The funding came from Carling and Wetherspoons’ Your Pint Can Help The Community, with drinkers urged to nominate projects that would improve local communities and make a difference. The panel commented:

“Carling and Wetherspoon were especially impressed by the community focus of the club, providing positive support to the local population, in a safe and inclusive environment.”
