Local residents from Woodville Square, Belle Isle, celebrated a recent street makeover with a summer tea party.
Families enjoyed the sunshine, cupcakes and fun activities from face-painting to a mosaic making workshop.
The tea party was held to celebrate recent work done by Leeds Federated to improve the environment of Woodville Square. In response to concerns raised by residents about security, alley gates have been installed to prevent the Square being used as a thoroughfare. New fencing has been put up and the area has been re-landscaped to create a pleasant outdoor space.
Many households got on board with the tidy up by entering a Leeds Federated garden competition with top prizes worth £150 sponsored by landscaping contractor, Horticon.
Georgina Nijjar, Leeds Federated’s Planned Improvement Works Manager said: “The boundary walls and paving at Woodville Square were looking tired and needed replacing. Leeds Federated asked residents what improvements they wanted to see and worked with Groundwork Leeds on the redesign and landscaping. We wanted to improve the area for the local community and I’m pleased that residents are pleased with the results.”
Cath Nelson, Leeds Federated’s Neighbourhood Initiatives Co-ordinator said: “It was great to see people enjoying the tea party and the new look Woodville Square. Many residents have also made their own contribution to making the area look lovely by taking part in the garden competition. It has been a fantastic community effort.”
Resident Annmarie McNiven, who won a prize for having the best garden, said:
“The work that Leeds Federated has done has gone a long way to improving the area and it looks fantastic. I’m delighted to win the garden competition which has encouraged many people to tidy up and make the most of their outside space.”
